Summary: A detailed analysis of textbooks over the last six decades reveals a consistent pattern in the
presentation of the figure of the poet Cecília Meireles. Most of these educational materials
portrayed Cecília as a spiritualist, intimate, symbolist, self-reflective and delicately feminine
poet, reinforcing characteristics that limit the understanding of the thematic and stylistic
diversity of her poetry, mainly highlighting the sensitivity and musicality of her work and
framing it into predefined labels that did not fully explore the breadth and boldness of his
literary production. However, this research highlights that Cecília Meireles was a versatile
author who also explored more audacious themes and structures in her poetry, referencing her
time and the historical events she experienced. Although there has been an evolution in the
approaches of more recent textbooks, which adopted a less framing and more reflective stance
in relation to authors and literary aesthetic movements, it is argued that the tendency to maintain
a traditional image of the poet Cecília Meireles still persists, often restricting the perception of
his literary legacy completely.
