Summary: Joséphine Bacon is a leading voice in contemporary French-speaking Canadian Indigenous poetry. Her last book received two important literary awards in 2019. In addition, her life trajectory was recently portrayed in a documentary film awarded at international festivals. The author was separated from her family in childhood and had a life divided between the city of Montreal and the indigenous reservations, between speaking French and re-appropriating her mother tongue. Bacon discovers her voice in poetry, and affirms her desire to be a poet of the oral tradition, like the Elders (with a capital E), race of which she is now a part (BACON, 2018). In this research we identified the main characteristics of Joshépine Bacons texts, we also presented a reflection on the importance of reading and translating Bacon`s poetry for the dissemination and awareness of the history of American indigenous people, and for the appreciation of female voices in contemporary indigenous poetry, and, manly, we proposed the translation of ten poems from her last work (Uiesh - Quelque Part) followed by a analysis about the translation process.
