Summary: This study aims to present the results of the translations of the book Ballades brésiliennes, the debut book by Franco-Capixaba writer Antonio Dias Tavares Bastos (Campos dos Goytacazes/RJ - 1900, Paris - 1960), published in Paris in 1924 by Éditions de la pensée latine. Having lived in Espírito Santo for almost twenty years, having published in magazines and newspapers, and having left, here, two of his seven books as a legacy, our focus is on the 27 poems in the author's debut book, all originally written in French and fully translated by us. Our theoretical framework includes Raimundo Nonato Barbosa de Carvalho (2014), Haroldo de Campos (apud TÁPIA; NÓBREGA, 2015), and mainly Antoine Berman (2012), particularly his book La traduction et la lettre ou l’auberge du lointain which provides the theoretical basis for our analyses. Our methodology consists of annotated translation, and for this purpose, out of the nearly thirty poems in the volume, we have selected four to illustrate our work, explaining the reasons for such choices. Our conclusions are embodied in the translations themselves, the product of our translation journey, encapsulated in what we call the "walk," i.e., the exposition from our reference choices to the outcome of our reflections, namely, our translations.

Keywords: Modern Brazilian poetry; Antonio Dias Tavares Bastos; Ballades brésiliennes; Translation.
