Summary: ABSTRACTThe2013 protests now known as“Jornadas de Junho”, demonstrations that had great popular participation and became a political landmark in Brazil’s recent history, were initially focused on protesting the increase ofthe bus farein São Paulo and other Brazilian cities, but ended up conflatinga series of dissatisfactionsand demands of the people, including the backlash against the choice of Brazil as the host for 2013 FIFAConfederations Cupand the FIFA World Cup in 2014. The “Jornadas de Junho”were followed by an increasing criminalization of protestsand political persecution, which culminated in the arrest of 21 activists on the eve of the 2014 World Cup finalmatch, in addition to the decree of the arrest of nine others -among them, Igor Mendes, then a geography student at Uerj.Arrested in December 2014 for violating a precautionary measure that prevented him from taking partinprotests, Mendes spent 204 days imprisoned in Gericinó prisoncomplex, formerly known asBangu prison complex.His experience was narrated in A pequena prisão, released in 2017. In this work, I will analyze how Igor's work becomes an instrument of resistance in the face of the political persecution that hasbeen increasingin Brazil. The selected theory discusses notions of testimony literature, prison literature and the interfaces between literature, history and politics; thus, I intendto build a critical theoretical document from the analysis of the selected material, in the light of the chosen theories.
